Malmo vs Olympiakos Match Betting Preview

Minnows Malmo welcome Olympiakos to the Swedbank Stadion on Wednesday night and it will be a match where the Swedish side will be hoping to get their first points on the board in the Champions League.

Malmo

Malmo are currently coasting along in the Allsvenskan with a nine point lead at the top of the table over second place IFK Göteborg but were handed a rude awakening in the Champions League a fortnight ago after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Juventus.

In all fairness though, no one expected Malmo to get anything out of the game and it has to be said that the Swedish side did perform well on the night.

Now Malmo welcome Greek Champions Olympiakos to the Swedbank Stadion and although it looks like another daunting clash, manager Age Hareide’s side surely need to claim something from the clash in front of their own fans if they are to stand a chance of progressing out of the tough group.

Simon Thern is set to miss the clash with an ankle injury but defender Ricardinho could be in contention after he recovered from a thigh problem.

Olympiakos

In contrast to Malmo, Olympiakos have endured a shaky start to the season domestically but got off to a flier in the Champions League after beating Spanish champions Atletico Madrid in a pulsating clash during the first match day.

As a result, Michel’s men have put themselves in a good position early on and will now need to capitalize when they face group minnows Malmo on Wednesday night.

Dimitris Siovas and Leandro Salino look set to be ruled out of the clash due to injuries while David Fuster also remains a doubt due to a groin problem.

Malmo vs Olympiakos Match Prediction

With Olympiakos possessing a squad consisting of a host of international stars while Malmo’s side possessing mostly home grown players, the Greek side should head into the game as favourites.

That being said, it will surely not be a walk in the park for Olympiakos as Malmo is a very strong side at the Swedbank Stadion, as evidenced by the fact that they have kept a clean sheet in all of their last three home matches in Europe.

The clash will be a tight one but Olympiakos should come away with the victory on the day.
