Brazil v Mexico Match Preview and Tips

Brazil vs Mexico match will be played on June 17, at Estádio Governador Plácido Aderaldo Castelo, Fortaleza.

Both teams won their first match in the tournament, and both matches were controversial. Brazil beat Croatia 3:1, in a match where they were awarded dubious penalties, which gave them a lead. Mexico was denied a penalty, and two regular goals were ruled out, but they overcame all those difficulties and scored one goal for a just victory.

Furthermore, Brazilians, despite the victory, were unhappy with the quality of play that they provided on the pitch, which casts a serious doubt over their challenge to claim the title.

On the other hand, Mexicans were probably better than anyone would hope for, and maybe we will see a very interesting and competitive match between these two teams.

Brazil and Mexico have a rich history of encounters. They played 38 matches up to date, with 22 Brazil victories, 10 Mexico victories, and 6 draws.

This will be their fourth match in the World Cup. Brazil won all of the previous matches easily, keeping a clean sheet and demolishing the Mexicans every time. In 1950 the result was 4-0, in 1954 5-0, and in 1962 2-0.

However, they didn’t play for a long time in this tournament, and, additionally, Mexico has been more successful in the 21st century – they have 6 wins, Brazil 4, with two draws, so Brazil will have a tough task in dispatching them.

Mexico will probably rely on the counter attacks in this game. Their speedy forwards, especially Dos Santos, who is hailing from Brazil, could do serious damage to the hosts, since their defense isn’t very mobile.

Therefore, Scolari could make some alterations and changes considering the game against Croatia. Luis Gustavo and Paulinho probably won’t feature together from the start, and Bernard could take their starting spot.

Scolari will again rely on Neymar, who started off this tournament with two goals, and he will be the biggest threat to Mexicans.

The game should be interesting to watch, open and flowing from the first minute. Brazil is the favorite to win this one, but if they come up trailing in a similar manner to what they did in the match against Croatia, it will be harder for them to come back, because Mexico is very dangerous on the counterattacks.
